Does scaling and polishing whiten teeth?

No, scale and polish does not whiten the teeth. While it may work on surface stains caused by red wine, tea, and coffee, it doesn’t have any bleaching properties whatsoever and is therefore different from whitening products. This is a mechanical procedure where the dentist applies a polishing paste to the teeth from a rubber cup. It gives the surface a smooth base. As a result of this, the teeth will look much brighter and cleaner but they cannot be whiter in the same sense as teeth whitening treatments do.

Scaling and polishing is a painless treatment that a lot of people love having as opposed to other dental procedures. It is carried out as part of the regular sessions at the dentist and aims to remove any build-up of tartar and plaque that have formed over time.
